ABOUT MATCHA

First things first, what is matcha?

Matcha is a finely ground powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Unlike traditional green tea, where you steep the leaves and discard them, matcha involves consuming the entire leaf, offering a more potent source of nutrients and antioxidants.

Originating from Japan, matcha is produced through a meticulous process. Tea plants are shaded for several weeks before harvest, increasing chlorophyll levels and enhancing nutritional content. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed, dried, and ground into a fine powder using granite stone mills.

Deeply rooted in Japanese culture, matcha is a key element of the traditional tea ceremony, where it is prepared with great care and attention to detail. Today, matcha is celebrated for its unique flavor, health benefits, and cultural significance.

  • ANTIOXIDANT POWERHOUSE

Matcha is packed with antioxidants (17 x more than blueberries!) which help to combat free radicals, reduce inflammation, and protect against various chronic diseases like cancers, heart conditions and cholesterol disorders.

  • MENTAL CLARITY

Matcha contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation and mental clarity. Combined with caffeine, it provides a calm, focused energy, enhancing concentration and cognitive function without the typical jitters associated with other caffeinated beverages.

  • METABOLISM BOOSTER

The catechins in matcha boost metabolism, increase fat burning, and regulate blood sugar levels. Meanwhile, its high chlorophyll levels detoxify the body, support healthy digestion, and promote skin health.

BUILD YOUR RITUAL

How to make the perfect Matcha.

Preparing matcha is both an art and a ritual. Here’s a simple guide to making the perfect cup:

  • SCOOP.

Start by measuring out 1 or 2 scoops of matcha into a matcha bowl (Chawan) with our bamboo scoop (Chashaku)
  • WHISK.

Add a small amount of hot (not boiling, max 80°C!) water to the matcha. Use our bamboo whisk (Chasen) to whisk the mixture until it becomes frothy and smooth.
  • ENJOY.

Adjust the amount of water to your preference for a stronger or lighter taste or add milk and have it latte!

How to choose quality matcha?

When buying matcha, look for these qualities to ensure you’re getting the best product:

Color:

High-quality matcha should be a vibrant, bright green. Dull or yellowish matcha indicates lower quality and bitterness.

Texture:

Good matcha should be finely ground and silky to the touch. No need for a sieve!

Origin:

The best matcha comes from Japan, particularly regions like Uji and Shizuoka.

Grade:

Matcha is available in ceremonial, premium, and culinary grades. Ceremonial grade is the highest quality, perfect for traditional tea preparation. Culinary grade is ideal for cooking and baking.
